Place a Request!

Log into ILLiad and place a request today

If you are a first time user of ILL there is a registration page you must fill out.

When you log into the system use your campus username and password.  Do not include the hccc or the @herkimer.edu.

Example:   

  • Username: smith567
  • Password: 123abcdefg

 

What is ILL

ILL is a service that HCCC provides to students, faculty and staff.  If there is a book or journal article that is not availabe through our library then you can use the ILL service to order that item.  It is intended for academic use.

How does it work?

One of the most important things to remember is begin your research early.  If you decide you want to request an item, be sure to take into consideration shipping time.  Most items take at least 1-2 weeks to arrive. Some arrive sooner, some arrive later. Journal articles can be delivered directly to your ILLiad account.

There are two different ways to submit a request.

1. If you know exactly what item you need (title and author) you can log directly into ILLiad and manually place a request.  Do this by clicking on either "Article Photocopy" or "Book" in the New Request category.  When you have typed in the title and author, click "Submit" at the bottom of the page.

 

2. If you are searching the SUNY Connect Union Catalog or any of our databases and you find a book we don't own or an article that is not full-text you can place a request from that point.  When you have found an item you want, there will be an ILL link somewhere on the page.  Follow the instructions at each step until you reach the ILLiad log-on screen.  Once you log-on the form is automatically filled in, scroll to the bottom and click "Submit".  

 

3.  You can manage your requests fom your ILLiad account: see the status, cancel etc...

 

**The very first time you place a request, there is a registration form that needs to be filled out.  Once you fill out the form and click submit you must log out, and then go through the steps to place the order again.  The registration form kind of overrides the reqeust and you have to do it again.**
